Wrong Side Of The River pays tribute to Patrick Swayze, a real Hollywood Outsider who kept on fighting until the end.
A man's man who danced his way into the hearts of millions, everyone looked up to Patrick, none more so than his Greaser co-stars. Rob Lowe and C Thomas Howell led the outpouring of tributes to an iconic actor whose characters were loved by many. He starred as Johnny Castle, Sam Wheat, Bodhi, Vida Boheme but we will always remember him as Darry.

While I was fortunate enough to work with him in three films, it was our passion for horses that forged a friendship between us that I treasure to this day. Not only did we lose a fine actor today, I lost my older `Outsiders' brother." C. Thomas Howell

Rob Lowe paid tribute, saying “Patrick lived a thousand lifetimes in one lifetime. He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman. But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife Lisa. He played my brother twice, in The Outsiders when I was 17, and then in Youngblood. Tonight I lost a brother.”

25.06.09 Sorry for the lack of updates. This one was meant to be up at the beginning of this week but I had server problems so was unable to load this entry. Very frustrating but now its online again so I can continue updating! I hope you're all having a wonderful summer. The Circle in Tulsa kicked off the summer season by showing "Rumble Fish" for free! You can't beat that price. I hope local fans took this fantastic opportunity to see this film on the streets where it was made! Downtown CineSeries is a free outdoor film and music event; the music starts at 7:30pm (food & adult beverages will be served); and the film "Rumble Fish" showed at dusk on "The Green," 3rd Street between Williams Center & the PAC on Wed, June 24th at 7:30pm
Several local organizations with a mutual interest in the continued revitalization and creation of arts events in Tulsa developed a grassroots project to showcase downtown Tulsa. " Rumble Fish" was chosen as the first film to kick off the Downtown Cine Series because it was written by S.E. Hinton, a Tulsan, and it was filmed in Tulsa. 19.02.09 A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to attend the filming of Jonathan Ross where Mickey was the headlining guest. It was a great show and it airs this Friday. I did a write up of the show's filming which you can read here. Be sure to watch it tomorrow night! Congratulations to Mickey Rourke for his BAFTA win, and fingers crossed for the upcoming Oscars! Commiserations on the loss of Loki, his 18 year old chihuahua. Yesterday's birthday boy was Matt Dillon, so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Matt! I'm looking forward to his new films, especially Bone Deep.

30.01.09 Mickey Rourke has given interesting answers to 10 questions by Time Magazine, including the following quote. "I had a good time when I was working with good directors... I was fine with Francis Ford Coppola when we did Rumble Fish."
 © Christian Simonpietri/Sygma/Corbis Mickey is being honoured tomorrow evening (Saturday 31st) at the Santa Barbara Film Festival with the American Riveria award, as a tribute for his outstanding achievement in film. Mickey will be in good company as his Rumble Fish and Kill Shot co-star, Diane Lane has previously been a recipient of the American Riveria award too! After Evan Rachel Wood, Mickey's Wrestler co-star introduces a montage of his screen work, Rumble Fish director Francis Ford Coppola will take the stage to present Mickey with his tribute award. I think this is very fitting, since as many people will know, Francis was instrumental in bringing Mickey back into the minds of studio execs after his screen exile. When production on The Rainmaker in 1997 began, studio execs were looking for "someone like Mickey Rourke", and Francis spoke out saying, "he's still around, why not use him?" Mickey delivered a fine cameo as Bruiser Stone the sleazy lawyer in the film, staying in people's minds long after his time on screen. Sounds like it'll be a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing them reunited again, and it's a worthy award for Mickey, especially with his new BAFTA and his Academy Award nominations. Congratulations are in order! |

Mickey still reigns in the acting stakes as he scooped the Golden Globe Best Actor award for his astonishing, honest and powerful performance in The Wrestler! Congratulations Mickey, and to Bruce Springsteen too, winning Best Song that he penned as a favour for Mickey. A lot of critics and blogs mentioning and reviewing The Wrestler have often spoken about Rumble Fish as an example of Mickey's charismatic power over the screen, so I shall be adding a list of blogs with notable entries that refer to Rumble Fish, as well as entries where you can read what other fans have to say about Mickey's triumph! |

Happy Birthday to Nicolas Cage for yesterday! On Monday, I was lucky enough to get a return ticket for a sold out London screening of The Wrestler, followed by a Q&A with Mickey Rourke himself! Last night, Mickey Rourke appeared on the Graham Norton show to promote The Wrestler and yours truly was in the audience! Mickey was on fine form, discussing his life and acting with real panache and honesty. He seemed to enjoy his time on the show, putting Graham and Jessica Biel in fluffy handcuffs, drinking scotch, committing an illegal act onstage, rocking out to Martha Wrainwright and watching audience members do their best as wrestlers with a fake doll of Randy The Ram! Certainly an evening I won't forget! Talking about unforgettable evenings, I apologise to everyone as I didn't post this in time but better late than never, right? Last night, the Aero theatre in Santa Monica showed a double feature screening of The Outsiders with Rumble Fish. Emma kindly sent along a few photos of the theatre, so I'll be uploading them soon. " I had only two things on my mind..... Paul Newman and a ride home." 29.09.08. One of my favourite actors, Paul Newman passed away at the weekend. He'd starred as one of the original screen rebels, playing iconic flawed men who fascinated audiences time and time again. He eschewed acting for charity work and auto racing. He is an inspiration to many people. Paul starred with Dennis Hopper in 'Cool Hand Luke' and Dennis took an amazing photograph of Paul on set. Click here to see it. As a kid, I remember reading The Outsiders for the first time and being so impressed that Paul Newman was mentioned in the opening lines. He's left such a legacy behind and for that we are lucky. Rest in peace, Paul. |

Thank you so much to all the people who have supported the site and donated pictures and information. I'm glad to have been in email contact with fans from all over the world who have enjoyed Rumble Fish. I'm going to make this site even more informative and special. After all, a great film and book like Rumble Fish does deserve it! Be sure to check back for more updates in the coming months. Here's to many more celebrations in the future! |

Keep your fingers crossed for Laurence as the Tony Awards ceremony is tonight. I'm sure he'd love to add another Tony to his awards! Starring as Thurgood Marshall in the one man show "Thurgood", about the man who triumphs over his family's slave history whilst fighting for civil rights and he ends up as America's first African-American Court Supreme Justice. Having already won two awards for his inspiring and educational performance, let's see if Laurence can make it an award trinity! |

Just a small update to pass on the sad news that Vic Ramos died last month. Here is a small online tribute to him. If you aren't asleep from your late night viewing, take a walk over the bridge and look at the strange objects in the river. Can you hear the strains of music wafting over the river? Go to the carnival and boogie along to the music! Whilst you're humming the catchy "Don't Box Me In", make sure to stop by and listen to the wisdom being imparted at Benny's. In the meantime, look at some covers from the Rumble Fish book throughout the years, and read some quotes to find what keeps people coming back to read S.Hinton's classic novel.
